Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara kolektif tema kebebasan dari tokoh utama perempuan yang terdapat dalam tiga cerita pendek karya Kate Chopin: “The Story of an Hour", "A Pair of Silk Stockings", dan "Beyond the Bayou". Dengan menelaah cerpen-cerpen tersebut secara bersama-sama, penelitian ini bermaksud mengungkap bagaimana Kate Chopin secara konsisten menggambarkan karakter perempuan yang melepaskan diri dari norma-norma sosial dan batasan patriarki. Tema kebebasan dari ketiga cerita pendek yang dipilih diperoleh dari hasil analisis terhadap karakter, konflik dan bentuk atau ekspresi kebebasan yang ditampilkan oleh ketiga tokoh utama perempuan dalam tiga cerita pendek karya Kate Chopin. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menerapkan pembacaan dekat dan analisis isi. Hasil penelitian yang ditemukan antara lain, karakter dari tiga tokoh utama perempuan adalah karakter bulat. Konflik yang dialami oleh tiga tokoh utama perempuan adalah konflik batin atau internal yang dialami karena tekanan dari kehidupan pernikahan atau tekanan dari masyarakat. Bentuk kebebasan yang dialami ketiga tokoh perempuan digambarkan melalui tindakan verbal maupun non verbal yang didahului dengan adanya proses berpikir yang menghasilkan sebuah kesadaran./ABSTRACT The study aims to collectively analyze the freedom themes of the main female characters in the three short stories by Kate Chopin: "The Story of an Hour", "A Pair of Silk Stockings", and "Beyond the Bayou". By examining the fragments together, the study is intended to reveal how Kate chopin consistently depicts the character of women who escape social norms and patriarchal constraints. The theme of freedom of the three chosen short stories is derived from the analysis of characters, conflicts and forms or expressions of liberty presented by the three main female characters in the three short stories by Kate Chopin. The research method used is qualitative descriptive research method by applying close reading and content analysis. The results of the research found, among other things, the character of the three main female characters are round characters. Conflicts experienced by the three main female figures are internal or internal conflicts experienced as a result of pressure from marital life or pressure from society. The forms of freedom experienced by the three female figures are depicted through verbal and non-verbal actions preceded by a thought process that produces a consciousness.
