Abstract
This study investigates the types of conversational implicature present in the dialogue of the film My Oxford Year (2025) and the translation techniques used to convey them in its Indonesian subtitles. Guided by Grice's (1975) theory of conversational implicature, which separates Generalized Conversational Implicature (GCI) from Particularized Conversational Implicature (PCI), and by Molina and Albir's (2002) framework of eighteen translation techniques, the research adopts a qualitative descriptive method. Eighty utterances containing conversational implicature were identified through repeated viewing of the film and examined alongside their Indonesian subtitle translations. The results show that PCI accounts for sixty of the eighty utterances, the majority of the dataset, while GCI accounts for the remaining twenty, indicating that the implicature in this film relies more heavily on situational context, character relationships, and British cultural references than on universally recognized scalar conventions. Regarding translation technique, twelve of Molina and Albir's eighteen techniques appear in the data, with literal translation occurring most often, followed by established equivalent and modulation. This pattern indicates that the translator tended to render utterances directly and allow the implicature to emerge from context, while also drawing on conventional Indonesian expressions and, where necessary, shifting point of view to keep the subtitles natural, particularly for British idioms, sarcasm, and culturally specific expressions. Altogether, these findings deepen the understanding of how pragmatic meaning is identified and negotiated in audiovisual translation, and they offer practical insight for translators, students, and researchers working across pragmatics and translation studies. Keywords: conversational implicature, translation technique, subtitle, pragmatics / Penelitian ini mengkaji jenis-jenis implikatur percakapan yang muncul dalam dialog film My Oxford Year (2025) beserta teknik penerjemahan yang dipakai untuk mengalihkannya ke subtitle berbahasa Indonesia.
