Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana implementasi pendidikan karakter berbasis etika tanggung jawab Emmanuel Levinas membentuk kesadaran siswa dalam menyapa dan menghormati di lingkungan sekolah multikultural. Subjek penelitian mencakup siswa, guru, kepala sekolah, dan staf sekolah di Saint Peter School. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus, di mana data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis secara tematik menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa tindakan menyapa dan menghormati bukan sekadar kebiasaan sosial, melainkan refleksi dari kesadaran etis yang muncul melalui relasi interpersonal yang tulus. Budaya sekolah yang mendukung, keteladanan guru, serta keterbukaan antarwarga sekolah menjadi faktor utama yang mendorong tumbuhnya karakter tanggung jawab dalam praktik sehari-hari. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pendidikan karakter yang berakar pada etika tanggung jawab mampu menciptakan ruang perjumpaan yang manusiawi dan transformatif. Kata kunci: etika tanggung jawab, Levinas, pendidikan karakter, menyapa, menghormati, kesadaran etis / This study aims to understand how the implementation of character education based on Emmanuel Levinas' ethics of responsibility shapes students' awareness in greeting and showing respect within a multicultural school environment. The research subjects included students, teachers, the principal, and school staff at Saint Peter School. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, and analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that greeting and respecting others are not merely social habits but reflect ethical awareness emerging from sincere interpersonal relationships. A supportive school culture, exemplary conduct from teachers, and openness among school members were found to be key factors in fostering a sense of responsibility in daily practices. This study affirms that character education rooted in the ethics of responsibility can create humanizing and transformative spaces of encounter.
