Abstract

Skripsi ini membahas sebuah novel yang berjudul One Part Woman karya dari Perumal Murugan. Novel tersebut bercerita mengenai pasangan suami istri yang sudah menikah selama dua belas tahun namun belum memiliki keturunan sehingga karakter perempuan mendapat penindasan dan diskriminasi dari masyarakat. Tujuan penulisan skripsi ini adalah untuk menemukan gambaran budaya patriarki yang terdapat dalam novel, gambaran budaya patriarki kepada karakter perempuan, dan dampak dari budaya patriarki terhadap karakter perempuan dalam novel. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisa data dalam novel ini adalah teori patriarki. Objek penelitian ini adalah novel dari Murugan, One Part Woman. Data dari penelitian ini berupa kata, prasa, kalimat yang tertulis dalam novel. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah peneliti menemukan adanya struktur patriarki seperti household, culture, dan sexuality yang menempatkan laki-laki menjadi pihak yang mendominasi. Kemudian penulis juga menemukan bahwa karakter perempuan didiskriminasi karena ketidakmampuannya memilik anak. Karakter perempuan mengalami diskriminasi dari masyarakat dan bahkan keluarganya sendiri yang disebabkan oleh budaya patriarki. Oleh karena budaya patriarki, dampak dari budaya patriarki tersebut membuat karakter perempuan kehilangan hak atas tubuhnya sendiri, laki-laki mengontrol tubuh perempuan, dan membuat perempuan menerima apa yang sudah dilekatkan kepadanya. Kata kunci: patriarki, pernikahan, perempuan India. / This skripsi discusses a novel entitled One Part Woman by Perumal Murugan. The novel is about a married couple who have been married for twelve years but have no children, so the female character gets oppressed and discriminated against by society. The purpose of this skripsi is to show the portrayal of patriarchal culture in the novel, the portrayal of patriarchy through the main character, and the effect of patriarchal culture on the main character in the novel. The method of this research is qualitative research methods. The theory used to analyze the data in this novel is patriarchal theory. The object of the skripsi is Murugan's novel, One Part Woman. The data of the study is in the form of words, phrases, and sentences written in the novel. The result of this skripsi is that the researcher finds a patriarchal structure such as households, culture, and sexuality that places men as the dominating party. Then the researcher also finds that the main female character is discriminated against because of her inability to have children. The main female character experiences discrimination from society and even her own family, caused by patriarchal cultures. Due to the patriarchal culture, the effect of this patriarchal culture makes Ponna lose the right to her own body, man’s control over woman’s body, and make women accept that which has been attached to her.
