Abstract

The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014) adalah film komedi-drama Amerika disutradarai oleh Lasse Hallström yang menyoroti kisah dua budaya berlatarbelakang India dan Perancis. Indian memutuskan pindah ke negara Perancis setelah kebakaran menghancurkan rumah mereka, termasuk restoran mereka, dan juga membunuh ibu dari keluarga tersebut. Selain itu, mereka ingin mencoba keberuntungan dengan membuka restoran India disana. Film ini mencoba menyoroti keragaman dan perbedaan dalam kehidupan sosial antara kedua budaya, yang dapat diamati melalui pakaian mereka, makanan, rumah atau restoran, bahasa, dan bahkan kebiasaan mereka sehari-hari. Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan yang mencolok antara budaya India dan budaya Perancis serta menganalisis nilai-nilai multikulturalisme yang ada sebagai sikap atau respon terhadap perbedaan budaya, dan pada akhirnya menunjukan dampak-dampak atas sikap menerima, memahami dan menghormati perbedaan. Skripsi ini adalah metode kualitatif yang menggunakan nilai-nilai teoritis multikulturalisme seperti keragaman, pemahaman bersama, rasa hormat bersama, kepercayaan bersama, keterbukaan pikiran, dan apresiasi. Temuan dari skripsi ini menunjukkan bahwa multikulturalisme mendefinisikan keragaman - kemampuan banyak kelompok atau budaya untuk hidup bersama - yang ditandai dengan keterbukaan terhadap penerimaan dan rasa hormat. Multikulturalisme adalah istilah yang mengajarkan kita untuk memiliki kesadaran, memahami, menghargai, dan memiliki rasa hormat dan rasa ingin tahu tentang budaya seseorang. Kata kunci: Perbedaan budaya, Multikulturalisme, Film, India dan Perancis. / The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014) is an American comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström that tells the story of two background cultures, India and France. The Indian family moves to France after a fire destroyed their home; including their restaurant and also killed the mother of the family. They also plan to try their luck by opening an Indian restaurant there. The film attempts to highlight the diversity and differences in social life between the two cultures, which can be observed through their clothes, food, home or restaurant, language, and even their daily habits. This skripsi aims to analyze the striking differences between Indian cultures and French cultures and observe the values of multiculturalism as responding to cultural differences; which at the end this skripsi aims to elaborate the positive impacts of having an understanding and accepting the differences in a multicultural society. This skripsi is a qualitative method using the theoretical values of multiculturalism including diversity, mutual understanding, mutual respect, mutual trust, open-mindedness, and appreciation. The findings of this skripsi show that multiculturalism seeks to define diversity—the ability of many groups or cultures to coexist—which is typified by an openness to acceptance and respect. Multiculturalism is a term that allows us to be aware, understand, appreciate, and have a lot of respect and curiosity about one's culture.
