Abstract

This study describes Indonesia's interests in the Pacific in relation to the problem of Papua. The interests or objectives of Indonesia undergo a cooperative relationship in the Pasik region specifically with South Pacific countries to prevent these countries from providing independence support to Papua in international forums. Because ethnic similarities as fellow Melanesians form a special organization for the southern Pacific countries, named Melanesian Spearhead Group. The vision of this MSG is decolonization and freedom of all Melanesian countries by striving for the identity and cultural, political, social and economic linkages of the Melanesian community. Papua is one of the Melanesian ethnic groups in Indonesia, the human rights problems that occur in Papua make Melanesian countries contribute to support Papua. This study uses qualitative research methodology with descriptive analysis approach. The theories used are Concept of Interest, domestic political stability, and Integration. The results of this study are the attitude of the Pacific countries that have been accused of Indonesia in various international forums giving a hard slap to Indonesia so that Indonesia's foreign policy which initially focused on ASEAN countries has changed direction to the southern Pacific. Indonesian foreign policy policy by opening cooperative relationships and providing assistance to these MSG countries by diplomacy. because considering the condition of the Pacific Region which is still relatively low and low in terms of development, people, economy, regional security, and its political system.
