Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the significant effect of the Starter Experiment Approach (SEA) on the subject matter of Wave Characteristics on the learning outcomes of Class XI IPA students of Jakarta 98 Public High School. The sample in this study amounted to 72 students consisting of 36 experimental class students and 36 control class students. Sampling using purposive random sampling is based on specific objectives by researchers. Class XI Science 1 as an experimental class with the SEA approach, and class XI Science 4 as a control class with conventional models. The instrument used is a multiple-choice test of the wave characteristics learning in the form of pre test and post test as many as 20 questions. Data derived from the pre-test and post-test values were analyzed using SPSS 21 for Windows. The normality test uses the Shapiro-Wilk test which shows the pre test value of both classes with sig. <0.05, ie 0.011 experimental class and 0.000 control class, which means that the data is not normal. While for the results of the homogeneity test using the Levene Statistic test shows the sig value. > 0.05 which is 0.208 which means that the data is homogeneous. Hypothesis test results using Mann-Whitney U which shows that the value of sig. (2-tailed) 0.00 <0.05, which means Ha is accepted or thus there is an effect of using the SEA learning model in improving student learning outcomes.
