Abstract
Saran: Disarankan agar tenaga kesehatan dan keluarga pasien rutin menerapkan teknik steril saat perawatan luka serta memberikan edukasi mandiri untuk mencegah komplikasi lebih lanjut./Background: Worldwide, about 422 million people have Diabetes Mellitus, and Indonesia ranks 7th in Southeast Asia with a prevalence of 11.3%. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease with a prevalence that continues to rise globally, including in Indonesia. A common complication is skin integrity disruption in the form of diabetic ulcers, which can lead to serious infections or even amputation. One approach used to manage this complication is wound care using sterile techniques with a 0.9% NaCl solution. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of wound care using sterile techniques in addressing skin integrity issues in patients with type 2 DM. Method: This case study used a descriptive case study design on two type 2 diabetes patients who received wound care at RSUD Budhi Asih, East Jakarta. Data collection techniques included direct observation, interviews, and physical examinations over three days of care. Results: Patient 1: In the pre condition, the wound measured 3 × 2 cm, there was no pus, and it didn't have any odor. After treatment (post), the wound shrank to about 2 × 0.8 cm, still without pus and odorless. Patient 2: In the pre condition, the wound measured 5 × 3 cm, with yellow pus and an unpleasant odor. After treatment (post), the wound reduced to <4 × 3 cm, the pus was gone, and the bad smell disappeared. Conclusion: Wound care using sterile techniques with 0.9% NaCl is an effective action in improving the wound healing process in patients with type 2 diabetes. Suggestion: It is recommended that healthcare workers and family members routinely apply sterile techniques during wound care and provide self-education to prevent further complications.
