Abstract
Papua's customary forests serve as ecological, social, cultural, and spiritual spaces for Indigenous communities. However, the expansion of extractive industries, particularly mining and large-scale plantations, has accelerated deforestation and threatened the sustainability of Indigenous livelihoods. This creative work presents a video podcast entitled "The Uprooted Forest: Voices of the Papuan Indigenous Communities in the Shadow of Industry" to communicate these issues through an audio-visual approach. The project aims to design an audio-visual concept that effectively delivers information while fostering audience engagement. In this creative project, the author served as the director, responsible for designing the visual concept, narrative structure, camera composition, lighting, audio arrangement, and supervising the production and post-production processes. The audio-visual design was implemented using three Sony ZV-E10 cameras, soft lighting, professional microphones, and supporting footage related to Papua's customary forests to strengthen the discussion. The results show that the planned audio-visual design successfully produced a communicative and informative video podcast. The combination of consistent visual quality, clear audio, varied camera angles, and supporting footage enhanced audience understanding of deforestation and Indigenous forest issues in Papua. Therefore, audio-visual design plays an essential role in strengthening message delivery within social and environmental video podcasts. Keywords: audio-visual design, video podcast, director, Papua customary forests, deforestation.
