Abstract

Penelitian ini tentang persepsi mahasiswa terhadap efektivitas teknik presentasi dalam kemampuan berbicara mereka di Universitas Kristen Indonesia. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa tentang efektivitas teknik presentasi dalam kemampuan berbicara mereka. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan desain survey. Responden dari penelitian ini adalah kelas non reguler dari Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Kristen Indonesia dengan jumlah responden 30 siswa diambil dari angkatan 2012-2015. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ada dua yaitu kuesioner (yang terdiri dari 24 pernyataan) dan wawancara. Likert Scale digunakan sebagai teknik dalam menganalisis data yang diperoleh melalui kuesioner sedangkan teknik descriptif teknik digunakan untuk menganilisis data yang diperoleh melalui wawancara. Dari data yang dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan wawancara ditemukan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa mengatakan bahwa teknik presentasi sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan dan mengembangkan kemampuan mereka dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa dosen diharapkan menggunakan teknik presentasi ini di dalam kelas ketika sedang mengajar mata kuliah. Kata kunci : Tehnik Presentasi, efektivitas, kemampuan berbicara This research is about students’ perception on the effectiveness of presentation technique to their speaking ability at Christian University of Indonesia. This research is intended to find out the students’ perceptions on the effectiveness of presentation to their speaking ability. This research was a qualitative research with a a survey design. The respondents of this research were the non regular class of the English Teaching Study Program at Christian University of Indonesia. The total respondents were 30 students taken purposefully from 2012-2015 batches. The instruments used in collecting the data were questionnaire (consisted of 24 statements) and interview. Likert Scale was used to analyze the data taken through questionnaire, while descriptive technique was used to analyze the data taken through interview.Based on the findings, data analysis and discussion the researcher draws some conclusion that majority of University Students said that presentation technique is an effective way to be used on their speaking ability improvement and development. So it is concluded that lecturers have to use this technique when teaching English in the classroom to use Presentation Technique in learning speaking because this technique can help them to improve or develop their speaking ability. To improve students speaking ability, the lecturers should use the technique in the classroom when teaching the courses. Keyword: Presentation technique, effectiveness, and speaking ability
