Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi kelas bawah dalam film Agak Laen melalui tokoh utama Bene, Jegel, Boris, dan Oki. Film sebagai produk budaya tidak hanya merefleksikan realitas sosial, tetapi juga membentuk makna sosial tertentu melalui konstruksi naratif dan visual. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini teori representasi dari Stuart Hall dengan konsep pendekatan konstruktif yang menekan bahwa makna dibentuk bukan sebagai cerminan realitas. kelas bawah dalam penelitian ini menggunakan konsep umum kelas bawah. Dari sisi metodologi, pendekatan kualitatif dengan tipe deskriptif dan metode yang digunakan yaitu, analisis teks. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik dokumentasi, dokumentasi adegan – adegan pada film sesuai dengan ketentuan kriteria yang akan dipilih menggunakan teknik porpusive sampling untuk menentukan sampel. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan teknik analisis semiotika Roland Barthes, yang mencakup tiga tahap yaitu, denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana film Agak Laen membentuk citra kelas bawah dalam berbagai dimensi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelas bawah direpresentasikan sebagai kelompok yang hidup dan bekerja dalam keterbatasan, terlibat dalam pekerjaan informal, serta berhadapan dengan kekerasan dan pelanggaran moral sebagai bagian dari strategi bertahan hidup. Selain itu, kelas bawah juga ditampilkan sebagai komunitas yang memiliki solidaritas kuat dan nilai-nilai kebersamaan dalam menghadapi tekanan hidup. Representasi tersebut tidak bersifat netral, melainkan membentuk stereotipe tertentu bahwa kemiskinan identik dengan kekacauan, kelucuan, serta penyimpangan yang dimaklumi. Film Agak Laen secara tidak langsung mereproduksi mitos tentang kelas bawah sebagai kelompok yang bertahan melalui logika praktis, emosional, dan informal, serta menunjukkan bahwa makna tentang kemiskinan dibentuk melalui simbol dan narasi visual yang diulang. As a cultural product, film not only reflects social reality but also constructs particular social meanings through its narrative and visual structures. This research adopts Stuart Hall’s theory of representation, using a constructive approach that emphasizes meaning is formed rather than mirroring reality. The notion of the lower class is understood here in its general sense. Methodologically, this study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach based on textual analysis. Data were collected through documentation—specifically, scenes from the film that meet predetermined criteria—with the sample selected using purposive sampling. Analysis was carried out using Roland Barthes’s semiotic technique, which consists of three stages: denotation, connotation, and myth.This study examines how Agak Laen constructs the image of the lower class across various dimensions. The results show that the lower class is represented as a group living and working under constraints, engaging in informal labor, and encountering violence and moral transgressions as survival strategies. Moreover, the lower class is portrayed as a community endowed with strong solidarity and communal values in facing life’s pressures. These representations are not neutral; they construct specific stereotypes that associate poverty with disorder, humor, and socially tolerated deviations. The film indirectly reproduces the myth of the lower class as a group that survives through practical, emotional, and informal logics, demonstrating how meanings about poverty are constructed through repeated visual symbols and narrative.
