Abstract

This study analyzes the translation methods of cynicism and sarcasm in the movie Ant-Man (2015). The main objectives of this research are to identify the translation methods used and to examine how these choices influence the conveyance of cynicism and sarcasm in the film. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected from the original English script and the official Indonesian subtitles. The findings reveal that two dominant translation methods were used: word-for-word translation, literal translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation and communicative translation. The chosen translation methods significantly affect the meaning of dialogues, especially in the context of cultural differences such as cynicism and sarcasm. With the appropriate translation methods, the film originality can be effectively conveyed to the audience. This research provides new insights for translators in conveying cynicism and sarcasm despite cultural differences. Keywords: translation methods, cynicism, sarcasm / Penelitian ini menganalisa metode penerjemahan dari sinisme dan sarkasme di dalam film Ant-Man (2015). Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi metode penerjemahan yang dipakai dan untuk meneliti bagaimana penggunakan metode berpengaruh dalam penyampaian sinisme dan sarkasme. Metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dengan data yang diambil dari naskah asli Bahasa Inggris dan subtitle asli Bahasa Indonesia. Temuan dari penelitian menunjukkan ada dua metode penerjemahan yang dipakai: word-forword translation, literal translation, semantic translation, adaptation, free translation and communicative translation. Metode penerjemahan yang dipilih berpengaruh secara sugnifikan pada arti setiap dialog, terutama pada konteks perbedaan kultur seperti sinisme dan sarkasme. Dengan methode penerjemahan yang tepat, keaslian arti dalam film dapat disampaikan dengan baik. Penelitian ini memberi pandangan baru kepada penerjemah dalam menyampaikan sinisme dan sarkasme meski dengan adanya perbedaan budaya. Kata kunci: metode penerjemahan, sinisme, sarkasme.
