Abstract

Permasalahan yang menjadi fokus penelitian adalah peranan pembelajaran ekstrakurikuler musik pada siswa. Adapun subfokus penelitian ini yang pertama adalah kemandirian siswa dengan aspek emosi, sosial, intelektual dan ekonomi dan subfokus kedua adalah aspek kepercayaan diri siswa dengan aspek keyakinan atas kemampuan yang dimiliki dan optimis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan/menggali peranan pembelajaran ekstrakurikuler musik dalam menumbuhkan kemandirian dan kepercayaan diri siswa Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) Elsafan di Jakarta. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi yang melibatkan kepala sekolah, guru musik, wali kelas, siswa, orang tua, dan alumni. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran ekstrakurikuler musik di SLB Elsafan secara signifikan berkontribusi terhadap pertumbuhan kemandirian siswa dalam aspek emosional, intelektual, sosial, dan ekonomi, serta mendorong kepercayaan diri melalui penguatan aspek keyakinan atas kemampuan diri dan aspek optimis. Meskipun terdapat tantangan seperti keterbatasan fasilitas dan pelatihan guru, musik terbukti menjadi media yang efektif dalam membangun keterampilan hidup dan identitas positif bagi siswa tunanetra. Penelitian ini menegaskan / Kesimpulan bahwa musik bukan sekadar hiburan, tetapi merupakan sarana edukatif yang menumbuhkan kemandirian dan kepercayaan diri siswa berkebutuhan khusus. Kata Kunci: pembelajaran musik, ekstrakurikuler, kemandirian, kepercayaan diri, tunanetra, SLB Elsafan / This study aims to describe the role of extracurricular music education in fostering independence and self-confidence among students at Elsafan Special Needs School (SLB Elsafan) in Jakarta. A qualitative approach was employed using a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the school principal, music teacher, homeroom teachers, students, parents, and alumni. The findings indicate that extracurricular music education at SLB Elsafan significantly contributes to the development of students’ independence in emotional, intellectual, social, and economic aspects, and enhances self-confidence by strengthening belief in their own abilities and promoting an optimistic attitude. Despite challenges such as limited facilities and teacher training, music has proven to be an effective medium for building life skills and a positive identity for visually impaired students. This research affirms that music is not merely entertainment, but an educational tool that nurtures independence and self-confidence in students with special needs.
