Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan gambar pada pengembangan berbicara siswa di SMPN 160 Jakarta. Berbicara diartikan sebagai ungkapan lisan yang tidak hanya melibatkan penggunaan pola ritme dan intonasi yang tepat tetapi juga pada urutan yang tepat untuk menyampaikan makna yang benar. Gambar digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa yang rendah. gambar digunakan sebagai salah satu alat atau media bantu visual untuk membantu dan membimbing siswa untuk berbicara dan membuat mereka tertarik untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. Peneliti menganalisis data yang dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik analisis statistik deskriptif dan parametrik (infratif). Data dikumpulkan dengan menggabungkan dua pre-tes dan dua post-tes dalam kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Dalam kelompok eksperimen, peneliti memberikan perlakuan pengajaran dengan menggunakan gambar. Sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol menggunakan pengajaran tradisional. Di kelas kontrol hasil pre-test adalah 40.70 dan post-test 43,13, dan pada kelompok eksperimen hasil pre-test 41,90 dan post-test adalah 46,87. Untuk menguji hipotesis, penelitian ini didasarkan pada independent sample t-Test yang digunakan untuk melihat pembanding (t-test). Pengambilan hasil didasarkan pada perbandingan probabilitas yaitu nilai signifikan dan tingkat α. Hasil t-test menunjukkan bahwa nilai Sig adalah 0,001 dan kurang dari nilai Sig. α (.05). Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Ha diterima atau Ho ditolak. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan gambar lebih efektif daripada pengajaran tradisional dalam pengembangan berbicara siswa. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunakan gambar pada pengembangan berbicara siswa kelas tujuh di SMPN 160 Jakarta Berefek secara signifikan. Keywords: Gambar, kemampuan berbicara, Eksperimental. This is an experimental research that was aimed to find out the effect of using pictures on students’ speaking development at SMPN 160 Jakarta. Speaking is defined as an oral expression that involves not only to the use of right patterns of rhythm and intonation but also to the right order to convey the right meaning. Pictures were applied to increase the students’ speaking ability which was low. They were used as one of visual aids to help and to guide the students to speak and make them interested in learning English. the researcher analyzed the data collected using descriptive statistic and parametric (infrential) analysis technique. Data were collected by incorporating two pre-tests and two post-tests in experimental group and control group. In the experimental group, the researcher gave treatment by using pictures. While in the control group received traditional teaching. In control class the result of pre-test is 40.70 and post-test 43.13, and in experimental group the result of pre-test 41.90 and post-test is 46.87. To test the hypotheses, the research was based on the used Independent Sample t-Test to see the compare mean (t-test). The decision-making of the result was based on the comparison of probability that is the significant value and level α. The result of the t-test shows that the Sig.value was .001 and less than the Sig. α (.05). This finding indicats that Ha was accepted; or Ho was rejected.The researcher concluded that the use of pictures was more effective than traditional teaching on students’ speaking development. These findings suggest that there is effect of using pictures on the students’ speaking development on student’s seventh graders at SMPN 160 Jakarta. It is suggested that the teacher use pictures for teaching speaking. Key words: Speaking Development, Pictures, Experimental design.
