Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan film berbahasa Inggris dalam pengembangan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua kelas. Setiap kelas terdiri dari 35 siswa. Kelompok eksperimen (VIIIA) diajarkan menggunakan film Inggris dan kelompok kontrol (VIIIB) diajarkan menggunakan metode tradisional. Kelas diadakan dua kali seminggu dan penelitian dilakukan selama empat minggu. Pre-test dan post-test digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Baik pre-test maupun post-test diberikan dalam dua kelas. Analisis data kuantitatif dilakukan dengan perangkat lunak SPSS 24.0, tes ini digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan menggunakan film berbahasa Inggris terhadap pengembangan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari skor rata-rata post-test antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Nilai rata-rata post-test di kelas eksperimen adalah 64,85 dan skor rata-rata post-test di kelas kontrol adalah 58,57. Penggunaan film berbahasa Inggris memberikan efek dalam mengajarkan keterampilan berbicara kepada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. Ini memotivasi siswa untuk berbicara dengan baik. Itu juga membuat proses belajar menjadi lebih menarik dan menciptakan suasana ceria dan santai yang baru. Kata Kunci: Penelitian Eksperimental, Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berbicara, dan Film Berbahasa Inggris The research is an experimental research; it was aimed to investigate the effect of using English Movies to the eighth graders’ speaking skill development at SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. To attain the aim, this research was conducted in two classes. Each class consisted of 35 students. The experimental group (VIIIA) was taught using English movies and control group (VIIIB) was taught using traditional method. The classes were held twice a week and the research was conducted over a period of four weeks. Pre-test and post-test were employed to collect data. Both the pre and the post-test were administered in the two classes. The quantitative data analysis was conducted with the SPSS 24.0 software, these tests were applied for analysing the data. Data analysis showed that there is a significant effect of using English movies to the eighth graders’ speaking skill development at SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. It can seen from the mean score of the post-test between experimental and control class. The mean score of post-test in the experimental class is 64.85 and the mean score of post-test in the control class is 58.57. Using English movies gives the effect in teaching speaking skill to the eighth graders’ of SMP Negeri 20 Jakarta. It motivates the students to speaking well. It also makes the learning process become more interest and create a new cheerful and relaxing atmosphere. Keywords: Experimental Research, Development Speaking Skill, and English Movies
