Abstract

Film dokumenter "Baduy dalam Jerat Modernisasi" mengangkat realitas sosial masyarakat Baduy Luar yang tengah mengalami pergeseran budaya akibat pengaruh modernisasi. Komunitas adat yang selama ini dikenal mempertahankan nilai-nilai tradisi, kini dihadapkan pada realitas baru: akses terhadap teknologi, meningkatnya interaksi dengan wisatawan, dan terbukanya peluang ekonomi dari luar. Dokumenter ini merekam momen-momen tersebut melalui pendekatan gaya observasional, yakni gaya dokumenter yang membiarkan peristiwa berjalan sebagaimana adanya, tanpa intervensi, narasi langsung, maupun arahan dari pembuat film. Kamera berperan sebagai pengamat pasif yang mengikuti kehidupan masyarakat Baduy secara natural, menghadirkan pengalaman visual yang jujur dan empatik bagi penonton. Teknik sinematografi yang digunakan mencakup penggunaan kamera handheld, komposisi sederhana, serta dominasi long shot dan medium shot untuk memperlihatkan interaksi sosial dalam konteks ruang budaya mereka. Penggunaan cahaya alami dipilih agar atmosfer visual tetap selaras dengan lingkungan asli masyarakat Baduy. Gaya observasional ini memungkinkan dokumenter tidak hanya merekam peristiwa, tetapi juga menyampaikan konflik internal, adaptasi, dan refleksi budaya yang sedang berlangsung dalam komunitas adat. Dokumenter ini tidak bertujuan menghakimi pilihan masyarakat, melainkan mengajak penonton untuk menyaksikan langsung bagaimana identitas lokal dinegosiasikan di tengah arus zaman. Dengan demikian, karya ini diharapkan menjadi dokumentasi budaya sekaligus sarana penyadaran tentang pentingnya menjaga nilai tradisi dalam menghadapi modernitas yang terus berkembang. / The documentary film "Baduy in the Snare of Modernization" presents the social reality of the Outer Baduy community, which is currently undergoing a cultural transition due to the increasing influence of modernization. Known for their strong commitment to traditional values, the Baduy people now face new realities—access to technology, the rise of tourism, and growing economic interaction with the outside world. This documentary captures those changes through an observational style, a documentary approach that allows real-life events to unfold naturally, without interference, narration, or direction from the filmmaker. The camera acts as a passive observer, following the daily lives of the Baduy people authentically, offering the audience a truthful and empathetic viewing experience. The cinematographic techniques applied include the use of handheld cameras, simple visual composition, and a dominance of long shots and medium shots to depict social interactions within the cultural context. Natural lighting is utilized to maintain the authenticity of the visual environment and to reflect the atmosphere of the Baduy village as it is. This observational approach allows the documentary not only to record surface-level events but also to reveal the internal conflicts, cultural negotiations, and gradual adaptation occurring within the community. Rather than judging their choices, the film invites the audience to witness how local identities are being redefined amidst the push and pull of tradition and modernity. Ultimately, this documentary aims to serve as both cultural documentation and a reflective medium to raise awareness about the importance of preserving indigenous values in an era of rapid change.
