Abstract

Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah agar dapat mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan matematis siswa kelas VIII pada materi lingkaran matematika dengan menggunakan metode ekspositori dan metode problem based learning (PBL) di SMP Santa Lusia Bekasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif yang bersifat quasi eksperimen. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah semua para siswa kelas VIII diSMP Santa Lusia Bekasi yang terbagi dalam lima kelas VIII yaitu sebanyak 162 siswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Jadi, sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VIIIA yaitu sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas VIIIB sebagai kelas eksperimen. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode tes. Teknik pengukuran kemampuan matematis siswa menggunakan pretest dan posttest dalam bentuk tulisan. Uji Analisa pada data yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini meliputi pengujian prasyarat dua rerata, uji hipotesis dan uji N-Gain score. Dalam mengelola data penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan bantuan dari program software Ms. Excel. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dan peningkatan kemampuan matematis matematika siswa yang menggunakan metode ekspositori dan metode Problem Based Learning (PBL). Hal ini dibuktikan dengan uji t data posttest yang telah menunjukkan bahwa tidak berbeda secara signifikannya adalah Thitung(−0,8393) < Ttabel(1,6690). Hasil uji-t data gain score menunjukkanadanya adanya perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan matematis siswa yang di ajar dengan menggunakan metode ekspositori dan metode Problem Based Learning (PBL) dengan Thitung(−0,1876) < Ttabel(1,6690). Dengan demikian, perbedaan kemampuan matematis pada siswa yang menggunakan metode Problem Based Leearning (PBL) cenderung lebih besar karena berfokus dalam memecahkan sebuah masalah sehingga memiliki pemahaman konsep lebih baik daripada metode ekspositori. Kata kunci : PBL, Perbedaan Kemampuan Matematis, Tatap Muka. / The aim of this study was to be able to find out the differences in the mathematical abilities of class VIII students in the mathematics circle material using the expository method and the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method at SMP Santa Lucia Bekasi. This study uses a quantitative research method that is quasi-experimental. The population in this study were all eighth grade students at Santa Lucia Bekasi Middle School, which were divided into five eighth grades, namely 162 students. The sampling technique in this study used a purposive sampling technique. So, the sample of this research is class VIIIA, namely as the control class and class VIIIB as the experimental class. Data collection techniques in this study used the test method. The technique for measuring students' mathematical abilities uses pretest and posttest in written form. Test analysis on the data used in this study includes testing the prerequisites of two means, testing the hypothesis and testing the N-Gain score. In managing the research data, the researchers used assistance from the Ms. software program. Excel. The results of this study indicate that there are differences and improvements in students' mathematical abilities using the expository method and the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method. This is evidenced by the posttest data t test which has shown that it is not significantly different, namely T_count (-0.8393) <T_table (1.6690). The results of the gain score data t-test show that there is a difference in the increase in the mathematical ability of students who are taught using the expository method and the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method with T_count (- 0.1876) <T_table (1.6690). Thus, the difference in mathematical ability of students using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method tends to be greater because it focuses on solving a problem so that they have a better conceptual understanding than the expository method.
