Abstract

Nama : Catherine Monica Marsaulina Program Studi : Sastra Inggris (S1) Judul : The Female Spirit in the Main Character of Lang Leav‘s book, Love Looks Pretty on You Pembimbing : Dr.rer.pol. Ied Veda Sitepu, S.S., M.A. Love Looks Pretty on You adalah buku kumpulan puisi kontemporer dan prosa karya Lang Leav. Buku ini menggambarkan karakter utama, seorang gadis kecil yang mengalami pertumbuhan menjadi seorang wanita dewasa. Pembaca dapat melihat secara langsung karakter di dalamnya adalah seorang perempuan dari sampul buku ini. Karakter seorang ibu juga muncul di dalam buku ini sebagai karakter pendukung peran karakter utama. Pada studi ini, penulis akan membahas tiga hal. Pertama, elemen-elemen kuat pada puisi dan prosa, yang di antaranya mengenai tema, nada (tone) dan mood, karakter dan karakterisasi. Kedua, penggambaran perjuangan perempuan pada karakter utama, ini akan masuk ke bab ketiga. Terakhir, penjabaran pesan yang terkandung di dalam buku ini yang ceritanya menginspirasi pembaca. Penulis juga membatasi penelitiannya dari 224 halaman, hanya dari enam puisi dan delapan prosa. Hal ini mendukung jawaban dari hasil studi ini, yaitu elemen-elemen yang kuat di dalam buku ini, yaitu tema, nada (tone), karakter dan karakteristik, serta teori refleksi. Ied Veda Sitepu, S.S., M.A. Love Looks Pretty on You is the compilation of contemporary poetry and prose by Lang Leav. This book describes the main character, a little girl who experiences her growth. The readers can see the illustration of the character is a woman from the cover of this book. The character of a mother also appears in this book as a supporting character. In this study, the present writer will discuss about three things. The first thing is about the strong elements from poetry and prose in this book, which are the themes, and tone and moods elements, also the character and characterizations. The second thing is about the female spirit that revealed through the main character, this sub-chapter is on the chapter findings and discussion. The last thing is about the messages implied in this book that makes the world inspired from the stories. The present writer also limits her study from 224 pages, only contains six poems and eight prose. The results of this study give the strong elements in this book, theme, tone, character and characteristics, and the theory of reflection. Keywords: main character, struggle, character, theme, tone
