Abstract

Penggunaan mendongeng untuk tujuan pendidikan merupakan strategi pengajaran yang efektif bagi siswa. Bercerita adalah salah satu cara yang paling efektif untuk melibatkan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Menurut Sundmark (2014) dan Remi (2011), mendongeng memiliki potensi sarana untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa siswa. Dengan kata lain, mendongeng adalah alat penting untuk pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah storytelling dapat meningkatkan kinerja berbicara siswa ketika storytelling digunakan dalam pembelajaran berbicara di kelas delapan SMPN 143 Jakarta. Jumlah sampel sebanyak 74 siswa. Metode kuantitatif merupakan metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, penggunaan kuesioner adalah teknik dalam pengumpulan data. Ini menandakan bahwa metode dan instrumen yang digunakan meliputi pengukuran numerik diikuti dengan kuantifikasi statistik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, sebagian besar siswa SMPN 143 Jakarta menyatakan bahwa penggunaan storytelling sangat membantu dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. Kata kunci: Teknik bercerita, penampilan berbicara, Inggris. / For educational purposes, storytelling is an effective teaching strategy for students. In the learning process, storytelling is one of the most effective ways to involve students. According to Sundmark (2014) and Remi (2011), storytelling can help students enhance their language skills. On the other hand, Storytelling is a crucial technique for language teaching and learning. The research was carried out to find out whether or not the extent storytelling may improve the students' speaking performance when storytelling is utilized in learning speaking at eighth grade of SMPN 143 Jakarta. The total sample was 74 students. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with data collection technique using the questionnaire. It signifies that the method and instrument used included numerical measurement followed by statistical quantification. Based on the results of the study, The majority of the students SMPN 143 Jakarta stated that the use of storytelling was very helpful in improving speaking performance.
