Abstract
Bamboo has long been used by the local people of Indonesia, but conservation efforts are rare. This paper is based on a study literture of various journals and scholarly books. Indonesia is one of the center spread of bamboo in the world, and an estimated 157 species. In the taxonomy of the genus and the many properties of bamboo species are not known, so it is important to discover new areas. For local communities Indonesia bamboo has economic function, ecological, or cultural. Economically bamboo have been used as building materials, basketball, vegetables, furniture, handicrafts, hedgerows. Using ecologically bamboo, among others as a barrier or barrier landslide village. Utilization of culturally associated with the use of bamboo in traditional ceremonies. Until now most of the bamboo is harvested directly from the forest, and over-exploitation is a threat to the preservation of bamboo. To preserve the bamboo in Indonesia can be done by studying ethnobotani to complete the data in-situ conservation and ex-situ.
