Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic is a huge phenomenon in many countries—no exception for Asian countries such as South Korea and Indonesia. South Korea emerged as one of the most successful countries to flatten the COVID-19 spreading curve. As one of South Korea's key partners for a long time (included in President Moon's New Southern Policy), Indonesia has not been able to deal optimally with the viruses spread. Therefore, when South Korea presents to help Indonesia control the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries are not surprised. This paper argues that providing priority medical aid to Indonesia in the COVID-19 case by South Korea is part of Indonesia's South Korean assimilation process for the New Southern Policy framework. This paper also analyzes South Korea's efforts to implement the New Southern Policy in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Medical aid is certainly in line with the fulfillment of South Korean interests in Indonesia, generally in ASEAN. This article uses qualitative research methods with case studies. This article concludes that the assimilation process initiated by South Korea through medical aid for Indonesia to fulfill its national interests in Indonesia, generally in the ASEAN region.
