Abstract

Prominent key words that are profound in the world of higher education today are digitization and internationalization that support the development of science and technology. Internationalization has long been worked on by universities, especially in Europe and America and is one of the pillars of the development of science and technology, due to the exchange of scholars and students. Industrial development began with Industrial Revolution 1.0 and has now reached Industrial Revolution 4.0. The current industrial revolution 4.0 was greatly aided by the development of information and computer technology. The Internet and web have opened up new horizons in relationships that can take place very quickly, globally and in real-time. One of the most recent issues first raised in Japan is Society 5.0. A combination of Industrial Revolution 5.0, and Web 5.0 in order to form a "super smart society" utilizing big-data, Internet-of-Things and Artificial Intelligence. The essence of Society 5.0 is the equalization of the well-being felt by the public with the help of integrated information and computer technology. This paper describes the situation and development of information technology and the Web as well as its links to universities. The challenges, opportunities and contributions of universities to contribute to the realizing of Society 5.0 are also discussed in this paper.
