Abstract

Pregnancy is a period requiring special attention to the health of both the mother and the fetus. Anemia is a common health issue during pregnancy that can increase the risk of complications for both mother and baby. Anemia can be prevented by meeting nutritional needs, attending regular prenatal check-ups, and taking iron-folic acid supplements (IFA) as recommended. Additionally, appropriate physical activity during pregnancy helps maintain maternal fitness and prepares the mother for childbirth. This Community Service activity aimed to increase pregnant women's knowledge regarding anemia and iron-folic acid supplements, as well as to improve their skills in performing prenatal exercises safely. The activity took place at the Melati 1 Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) in Kadu Village, Jatigede District, Sumedang Regency, West Java, involving 15 pregnant women. The methods employed included health education, discussions and Q&A sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice of prenatal exercises. The educational material covered the definition and causes of anemia, signs and symptoms, the impact of the condition, prevention strategies, the benefits of iron-folic acid supplements, proper consumption methods, and the importance of adherence to the supplement regimen. The exercise training involved demonstrations of warm-up routines, core movements, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques, all tailored to the participants' physical conditions and capabilities. The results showed that all participants engaged well with the program and actively participated in the education, discussion, and exercise sessions. This activity is expected to raise awareness among pregnant women regarding the importance of preventing anemia, adhering to iron-folic acid supplementation, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and engaging in appropriate physical activity during pregnancy. Sustained implementation of this activity, involving Posyandu volunteers and healthcare professionals, is expected to strengthen health promotion and prevention efforts aimed at improving maternal and fetal health.
