Abstract
Academic stress may affect sleep quality among medical students due to demanding schedules, substantial workloads, and academic expectations. This study aimed to examine the association between academic stress and sleep quality among medical students of the 2022 cohort at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Kristen Indonesia. This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design. A total of 71 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Academic stress was measured using the Perception of Academic Stress Scale, while sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 50.7% of respondents experienced moderate academic stress, while 64.8% had poor sleep quality. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between academic stress and sleep quality, with a p-value of 0.020. These findings indicate that students with higher academic stress tend to experience poorer sleep quality. Therefore, stress management programs, academic workload evaluation, and sleep hygiene education should be strengthened to support medical students’ health and academic performance
