Abstract

The prompt delivery of audited financial records represents a critical dimension in offering meaningful insights to stakeholders. Conversely, a lag in completing audits—frequently termed audit delay—can diminish the utility of financial disclosures and hinder strategic decision-making processes. This investigation is designed to evaluate how financial distress, profitability, corporate size, and audit fees impact audit delay, while integrating Public Accounting Firm (KAP) reputation as a moderating variable. The empirical focus centers on property and real estate enterprises registered on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) spanning the 2020–2024 timeframe. The initial research population comprises 92 firms within the property and real estate sector, from which 31 companies were short-listed based on specific purposive criteria over the 5-year observation window, yielding an aggregate of 155 data points. This study relies on secondary data officially retrieved from the IDX. Adopting a quantitative methodology, the gathered dataset was examined utilizing panel data regression modeling executed via STATA 15 software. The empirical outcomes demonstrate that financial distress exerts no meaningful impact on audit delay, and profitability similarly reveals no negative connection to audit delay. In contrast, corporate size exhibits a significant negative influence on audit delay, whereas audit fees demonstrate a positive relationship. Additionally, the reputation of the Public Accounting Firm successfully moderates the collective effects of financial distress, profitability, firm size, and audit fees on the duration of audit delays. These insights imply that management teams should elevate audit workflow efficiency through intensified coordination with external auditors and systematically weigh the reputation of KAPs during the auditor selection process. Simultaneously, Public Accounting Firms are required to rigorously uphold audit quality, auditor expertise, and professional objectivity to drive operational efficiency and ensure the punctual publishing of audited corporate financial statements. Keywords : Financial distress, Profitability, Firm Size, Audit Fees, Public Accounting Firm Reputation, Audit delay.
