Abstract

Global trends indicate that international investment decisions are increasingly incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles as key indicators of sustainability. In this context, Indonesia leveraged the momentum of the 2022 G20 Bali Summit to reinforce its commitment to sustainable development, aiming to enhance its investment attractiveness, particularly for Japan as a strategic economic partner. This study aims to analyze Indonesia's policy strategies and commitments in promoting ESG implementation as an investment attraction for Japan following the G20 Bali Summit 2022. This research applies the theory of Liberal Institutionalism by Robert Keohane and the concept of Sustainable Investment by Cary Krosinsky and Sophie Purdom. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Research data were obtained through interviews with relevant informants as primary data, alongside official documents, institutional reports, regulations, and academic literature as secondary data. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically to explain Indonesia's policy strategies and commitments in encouraging ESG implementation as an investment attraction for Japan post-G20 Bali Summit 2022. The findings indicate that Indonesia's post-G20 ESG strategy contributes to enhancing the confidence of Japanese investors through strengthening governance certainty based on the Online Single Submission Risk-Based Approach (OSS-RBA) platform as one of its core institutional foundations. Built upon this foundation, regulatory commitments to the environmental pillar within sustainable industrial ecosystems, coupled with the protection of social pillars through occupational safety and labor standards, serve as critical considerations that influence the long-term capital allocation preferences of Japanese investors. Keywords: Economic Diplomacy; ESG; G20 Bali 2022; Japanese Investment.
