Abstract

This study is entitled An Analysis of Machine Translation Output (Google Translate) on Daily Conversational Sentences from English into Indonesian. The objective of this research is to analyze the level of meaning accuracy and structural naturalness of machine translation results, particularly in informal conversational expressions containing idioms, cultural terms, and contextual phrases. The data consist of 500 daily conversational sentences collected from the social media platform Instagram. The sentences were translated using Google Translate and then compared with more natural translations produced by native speakers or based on idiomatic translation theories. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a focus on meaning and structural analysis. The analysis concentrates on two main aspects: meaning equivalence (accuracy) and naturalness of the target language structure. The findings reveal that Google Translate tends to produce literal translations, especially when dealing with idiomatic expressions, collocations, and culture-specific terms such as ngabuburit and sahur. In addition, the translated sentences frequently follow the syntactic pattern of the source language, resulting in less natural expressions in the target language. Key words: machine translation, Google Translate, idiomatic translation, daily conversation, accuracy, naturalness.
