Abstract

This thesis examines the interplay of beauty and reality as portrayed in selected Indonesian poetry about the sea and islands, using an ecocritical approach. Indonesia's archipelagic identity is profoundly tied to its marine and island ecosystems, which are not only cultural symbols but also vital resources under threat from environmental crises. Through an analysis of works by poets such as H.S. Djurtatap, Iwan Simatupang, Amal Hamzah, Nirwan Dewanto, and Sitor Situmorang, this study explores how poetry reflects the aesthetic allure of nature while addressing ecological challenges. Poetic depictions intertwine cultural heritage with pressing concerns such as pollution, overfishing, and climate change. By employing vivid imagery and emotional resonance, these poems advocate for a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. The research highlights the potential of literature as a medium for raising ecological awareness and fostering cultural reflection, contributing to broader discussions in environmental humanities./Penelitian ini mengkaji interaksi antara keindahan dan realitas yang digambarkan dalam puisi-puisi Indonesia tentang laut dan pulau-pulau dengan menggunakan pendekatan ekokritik.
