Abstract
This experimental research was conducted to find out the effect of using TGT (Teams-Games-Tournament) technique to the eleventh graders’ reading comprehension at SMAN 55 Jakarta. It involved one control class, XI IIS B (33 students), and one experimental class, XI IIS C (34 students), which were taken using random sampling technique. The researcher taught reading in different techniques; conventional method and TGT technique. Conventional method was implemented in control class; while TGT technique was implemented in experimental class. To obtain the data, pre-test and post-test were employed as the instruments. The data obtained were analyzed using the descriptive statistic and parametric statistic analysis technique through SPSS version 21.0 program for Windows. The results of normality test using Kolmogorov-Smirnov showed normal distribution and the results of homogeneity test using Levene’s test showed homogeneous variance. Based on the result of hypothesis test using the Independent Sample t-test, it was found the Sig. value (2-tailed) 0.013 was lower than the Sig. α 0.05. The findings indicated that Ha was accepted. Thus, it could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using TGT technique to the eleventh graders’ reading comprehension at SMAN 55 Jakarta. Based on this, it was recommended to teachers to take account of using TGT technique which could help students comprehend the texts given more easily.
