Abstract

Daun sirih hijau telah dipakai dalam waktu berabad-abad karena sifat terapeutiknya. Air yang diresapi daun sirih hijau telah dipakai sebagai antibakteri alami dalam waktu berabad-abad oleh banyak orang di Indonesia. Salah satu alasannya adalah komponen alami yang terdapat pada daun sirih hijau bisa menjadi alternatif yang lebih aman dibandingkan dengan obat-obatan yang ada kandungan bahan sintetis. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui apakah ekstrak daun sirih hijau (Piper betle L.) dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus atau tidak. Diameter zona hambat tersebut menandakan yaitu ekstrak daun sirih hijau mampu menghambat perkembangan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro. Sebagai kontrol positif, antibiotik piperacilin menghasilkan zona hambat yang lebih luas daripada jumlah ekstrak daun sirih hijau yang diuji, yaitu 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%. Zona hambat antibiotik Pencilin (Piperacilin) mempunyai zona hambat 40,05 mm. Zona hambat ekstrak daun sirih hijau yang memiliiki kekuatan lemah (14,38 mm) yaitu pada konsentrasi 100%. Pada penilitan ini, konsentrasi ekstrak daun sirih hijau 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25% tidak menunjukkan tidak ada respons hambat pertumbuhan berdasarkan kriteria diameter zona hambat menurut Greenwood. Kata kunci: Uji aktivitas, daun sirih hijau, Staphylococcus aureus, anti bakteri. / Piper betle L. is one of the traditional medicinal plants that has been widely used. Piper betle L. cooking water can be used as a natural antibacterial and has long been trusted by many Indonesian people. This is because Piper betle L. leaves contain natural compounds that are safer than the use of drugs with synthetic ingredients. This study aims to see the inhibition ability of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria by Piper betle L.leaf extract. Based on the results obtained, Piper betle L. leaf extract has the potential to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in vitro as evidenced by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone. Penicilin antibiotics as a positive control produced a larger inhibition zone diameter compared to the various concentrations of Piper betle L. leaf extract studied, namely 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%. The zone of inhibition of the antibiotic Pencilin (Piperacilin) had a zone of inhibition of 40.05 mm. The zone of inhibition of Piper betle L.leaf extract that has weak strength (14.38 mm) is at a concentration of 100%. In this study, concentrations of Piper betle L. leaf extract 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25% showed no growth inhibition response based on the criteria for inhibition zone diameter according to Greenwood.
