Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of using STAD on students’ writing narrative text. The subject of the study was the second-grade students of SMPN 1 Cikarang Barat, Bekasi in academic year 2017/2018. The population of this research was the whole second grade students in this school. There were two classes used as the sample of this research. First class was VIII.A as control group (30 students). Second class was VIII.C as an experimental group (30 students). So, the total number of the sample was 60 participants. The data of this research were collected through pre-test and post-test scores from both classes. The learning activities were conducted within eight meetings in both classes. The result of the study was that the students’ achievement during learning activity by using STAD has no a significant effect on students’ writing narrative text but the means score of students’ writing narrative text improved. It was supported by result of the pretest of the experimental group was 45.70; while the mean of the control group was 43.07. After using STAD as a learning strategy the mean of post-test in the experimental group was increase to 59.63 and in the control group was increase to 55. Based on the descriptions above, it is recommended that teachers use other strategy to teaching writing skill that can improve students' writing narrative text. Keywords: STAD, writing skill, narrative text. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari strategi pembelajaran STAD dalam penulisan teks narasi. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa/siswi kelas dua SMPN 1 Cikarang Barat, Bekasi tahun akademik 2017/2018. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas dua. Penelitian ini terbagi menjadi dua kelas. Kelas pertama adalah VIII.A sebagai kelompok kontrol (30 siswa). Kelas kedua adalah VIII.C sebagai kelompok eksperimen (30 siswa). Jumlah keseluruhan sampel untuk penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa. Pengumpulan data dari penelitian ini diambil dari pre-test dan post-test dari dua kelas tersebut. Kegiatan belajar mengajar dilakukan selama delapan kali pertemuan di kedua kelas tersebut. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pencapaian siswa selama kegiatan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan STAD tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap penulisan teks narasi tetapi nilai rata-rata dalam penulisan siswa meningkat. Hasil ini didukung oleh hasil nilai pre-test kelompok eksperimen adalah 45,70; sedangkan rata-rata dari kelompok kontrol adalah 43.07. Setelah menggunakan STAD sebagai strategi pembelajaran, rata-rata nilai dari post-test di kelompok eksperimen meningkat menjadi 59.63 dan di kelompok kontrol menjadi 55. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, disarankan agar guru dapat menggunakan strategi pembelajaran lain yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks narasi.
