Abstract

Microbiota in digestive tract consist of bacteria, virus, fungi and etc. Candida is a saprophyte in children digestive tract. However, it is a pathogen in person with declined immune system and also can caused local or systemic infection if translocated from digestive tracts. This study aim to determine the diversity of fungi and fungal burden in children digestive tract. Breeding of fungi performed involving 61 stool from healthy and sick children using Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and CHROMagar. Candida grow in 43 samples (70,5%) and there was no significant difference between fungal burden that growth on SDA and CHROMagar. The majority (29,5%) of fungal burden in the amount of 1-50 CFU/g stool and 8,2% of total sample were obtained fungal burden with the amount of colonies that are not counted. The most common species identified was C. tropicalis (41,6%) and 32,7% of the obtained sample was mixture of species. Keyword: Microbiome, Candida, Fungi, Fungal Burden.
