Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti persepsi mahasiswa terhadap praktik membaca bahasa Inggris menggunakan aplikasi LINE Webtoon. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Sastra dan Bahasa, di Universitas Kristen Indonesia pada bulan Januari sampai bulan Juni 2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dalam bentuk survei, dengan kuesioner yang dibuat menggunakan Google Form, lalu disebarkan kepada mahasiswa melalui WhatsApp. Kuesioner terdiri dari 30 pertanyaan, dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 65 mahasiswa. Peneliti menggunakan teknik analisis data statistik deskriptif. Data persepsi siswa yang terdiri dari tujuh indikator yaitu: mengakses aplikasi Webtoon, fitur aplikasi Webtoon, minat konten di aplikasi Webtoon, minat menggunakan aplikasi Webtoon dan membaca komik, durasi membaca Webtoon, rasa ingin tahu terhadap Webtoon, dan penggunaan bahasa di aplikasi Webtoon. Indikator tersebut menunjukan bahwa 6.97% menyatakan sangat tidak setuju, 17.69% menyatakan tidak setuju, 56.15% menyatakan setuju, dan 19.18% menyatakan sangat setuju. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa persepsi siswa terhadap latihan membaca bahasa Inggris menggunakan aplikasi LINE Webtoon baik dan positif (71,9%). Kata kunci: persepsi siswa, membaca, aplikasi LINE Webtoon. / This study aims to examine student perceptions of the practice of reading English using the LINE Webtoon application. This research was conducted on students of the English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Letters and Languages, at Universitas Kristen Indonesia from January to June 2023. This research used a quantitative method in the form of a survey, with a questionnaire created using Google Form, then distributed to students via WhatsApp. The questionnaire consisted of 30 questions, with 65 students as respondents. Researcher used descriptive statistical data analysis techniques. Student perception data consists of seven indicators, namely: accessing the Webtoon application, Webtoon application features, content interest in the Webtoon application, interest in using the Webtoon application and reading comics, duration of reading Webtoon, curiosity about Webtoon, and use of language in the Webtoon application. These indicators show that 6.97% strongly disagree, 17.69% disagree, 56.15% agree, and 19.18% strongly agree. Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that students' perceptions of English reading practice using the LINE Webtoon application have good and positive perceptions (71.9%).
