Abstract

The research conducted aims to examine the application of Cooperative Learning model type STAD combined with the Culture-Based Group Project in improving students high order thinking skills. This research was conducted in Biotechnology matery. The group projectreferred to in this study is a task which in group who makeproducts by conventional Biotechnology processed. This conventional Biotechnology product must be adapted to the culture of each student's region. This product is a colorful product and combined with typical food in the regional culture of each student.This research is a classroom action research. The design of this research uses a modification of the Kemmis & McTaggart model in 2 cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were students of Biology Education, Facultyof Teacher Training and Education at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI). The research instrument uses observation sheets and evaluation of learning outcomes that measure high-level thinking skills in the realm of C4 - C6. Data analysis techniques are conducted in qualitative descriptive and quantitative descriptive with a T. Test. The results showed that after the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model type STADcombined with a culture-based Group Project that the standard of success had reached greater than 75% and was complete. The results of the T test between the pretest and posttest cycle I and post-cycle one with posttest cycle II also showed a significance value of 0,000. These results state that if P <0.05, there are significant differences between pretest, posttest cycle 1, and posttest cycle2. Higher-order thinking skills from pretest to cycle 1 to cycle 2 experience improvement. Keywords: Cooperative Learning, Group Project, High order thinking skills
