Abstract

Background: During the post-pandemic era, Masks have been progressively employed in the general public for a long time. The use of masks can increase the occurrence of acne or exacerbate pre-existing acne, which is influenced by several factors. There has been little research into the adverse effects of employing masks, particularly the use of masks in preclinical students. The purpose of this study is to see what influence the lengthy duration of the mask has on the occurrence of masks in the 2022 FK UKI preclinical students class. Methods: An observational analytic design with a cross-sectional design was employed in this investigation. Purposive sampling was utilized in the sample procedure. From July 1 to July 12, 2023, this study was carried out in the Faculty of Medicine, Christian University of Indonesia. The study included 162 respondents, including 111 who had encountered maskne. This study used a questionnaire in the form of a Google form that has been evaluated for validity and reliability to measure the types of masks and the prevalence of masks. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS Version 23 and statistical tests based on the Chi-Square technique. Results: This study's findings were dominated by respondents who had used masks (68.5%)and the percentage who had experienced masks were dominated by respondents who wore masks for ≥ 4 hours (81.1%), the type of mask used that was often used namely medical masks (66.7%) and changing masks <2 times (83.8%). The analysis found no significant relationship between the duration of mask use, frequency of mask changes, and the incidence of maskne (P-value > 0.05), but there was a significant relationship between the type of mask used and the incidence of maskne (P-value 0.05). Conclusion: There is no correlation between the duration of mask use and the prevalence of mask use in the 2022 FK UKI preclinical student class. Keywords: Duration of using masks, Types of Mask Use, Frequency of Changing Masks, Maskne
