Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the Solution Focus Brief Counseling (SFBC) approach in improving the self-assurance of students with delayed learner characteristics at SMP Negeri 106 Jakarta.. The selection of the SFBC approach is based on its emphasis on an individual’s strengths, potentials, and alternative solutions, rather than directing attention to problem causes or eisting limitations. The research used the Single Subject Research (SSR) approach using the A-B-A design that consists of three successive stages: the pre-intervention stage (A1), the intervention stage (B), and the post- intervention stage (A2). The participant in this study was an eighth-grade student identified as a slow learner, who initially displayed low levels of self-confidence and limited social responsiveness within the educational context. We got information by having students fill out observation sheets and take tests before and after the study. The tests were mostly about self-confidence and social skills. The results showed that the students' behavior and interest in school had gotten a lot better. During the post-intervention phase (A2), the observation score went from 32 at the start of phase A1 to 60, showing a gain of 28 points. The student's score on the pre-test, which was 2.5, went up to 4.1 on the post-test. These outcomes demonstrate that the SFBC approach contributed effectively to the enhancement of self-confidence and social responsiveness. A lot of the student's progress was helped by using SFBC techniques like the miracle question, the scaling question, and eception finding. These techniques helped the student see small wins, believe in themselves, and interact with others more positively at school. After looking at the data and what was seen in the field, it's clear that the Solution Focus Brief Counseling method works to help students who are learning slowly by giving them one-on-one counseling meetings. This approach strengthens students’ self-potential, fosters greater self-confidence, and facilitates improvements in adaptive social behavior throughout the learning process.
