Abstract
This creative work is motivated by the urgent need to document the oral traditions and sacred Tung Piong ritual in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, which is increasingly marginalized by modernization and the shifting lifestyles of the younger generation. This documentary film aims to authentically record indigenous practices that represent the spiritual connection between the Sikka community and their ancestors, while simultaneously serving as a relevant visual educational medium for a broader audience. The author employs an ethnographic writing style as the primary methodological foundation, where the creative process focuses not only on visual aesthetics but also on the depth of participant observation and the emotional engagement between the subjects and the filmmaker. Through this approach, tribal elders and informants are positioned as primary narrators, ensuring that the emic perspective, the internal viewpoint of the community, remains authentic. The structure of the work is organized into four key phases: establishing the theoretical framework, designing the creative concepts and production planning, conducting field observations and filming, and the editing process, which synthesizes descriptive elements with compelling narration. The result of this work is an ethnographic documentary that successfully maps the complexities of the Tung Piong ritual without diminishing its sacred values. This study concludes that the ethnographic method allows a documentary to function not merely as a source of information, but as a cultural artifact capable of preserving identity, fostering appreciation among the youth for local heritage, and contributing significantly to the field of visual anthropology in Indonesia. Keywords: Documentary Film, Tung Piong, Ethnography, Sikka, Indigenous Ritual, Cultural Preservation.
