Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan rendahnya kemampuan membaca pada siswa kelas 5 sekolah dasar. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi efektivitas konseling individu dengan menggunakan pendekatan art therapy sebagai upaya intervensi untuk membantu siswa yang mengalami kesulitan membaca. Tujuan dari pendekatan ini adalah untuk mendukung siswa dalam meningkatkan rasa percaya diri, motivasi belajar, dan fokus saat membaca, sekaligus membantu mereka mengenali serta mengatasi hambatan yang dihadapi dalam proses membaca. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif eksperimen dengan pendekatan Single Subject Research (SSR) yang menggunakan desain A-B-A. Penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga fase: tiga sesi baseline pertama (A1), tiga sesi intervensi (B), dan tiga sesi baseline kedua (A2). Subjek penelitian merupakan seorang siswa yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan hasil asesmen nilai Bahasa Indonesia yang berada di bawah nilai rata-rata kelas. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa alat ukur kemampuan membaca dengan lima indikator, yakni pemahaman literal, reorganisasi, pemahaman inferensial, evaluasi, dan apresiasi. Analisis dilakukan dengan cara visualisasi data dalam bentuk grafik serta analisis deskriptif untuk menilai perubahan level, tren, dan stabilitas skor dalam setiap fase. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor baseline awal (A1) sebesar 46,7% mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan saat intervensi (B) menjadi 80,0%. Meskipun terjadi sedikit penurunan pada fase A2 menjadi 53,3%, nilai tersebut tetap lebih tinggi dibandingkan fase A1. Temuan ini mengindikasikan konseling individu menggunakan pendekatan art therapy efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa. Oleh karena itu, peneliti merekomendasikan agar pendekatan ini dapat diintegrasikan dalam program bimbingan dan konseling di sekolah-sekolah untuk mendukung literasi siswa secara lebih menyeluruh./This study is motivated by the issue of low reading ability among fifth-grade elementary school students. The primary focus of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of individual counseling using an art therapy approach as an intervention strategy to assist students experiencing reading difficulties. The aim of this approach is to support students in enhancing their self-confidence, learning motivation, and concentration while reading, as well as to help them identify and overcome obstacles in the reading process. The research employed a quantitative experimental method with a Single Subject Research (SSR) approach using an A-B-A design. The study consisted of three phases: three initial baseline sessions (A1), three intervention sessions (B), and three subsequent baseline sessions (A2). The subject of the study was a student selected through purposive sampling based on Indonesian language assessment scores that fell below the class average. The data collection instrument was a reading ability measurement tool based on five indicators: literal comprehension, reorganization, inferential comprehension, evaluation, and appreciation. Data analysis was conducted through visual data presentation in the form of graphs and descriptive analysis to assess changes in level, trend, and stability of scores in each phase. The results showed that the average initial baseline score (A1) was 46.7%, which significantly increased during the intervention phase (B) to 80.0%. Although there was a slight decrease in the second baseline phase (A2) to 53.3%, this score remained higher than that of the initial baseline phase. These findings indicate that individual counseling using an art therapy approach is effective in improving students' reading abilities. Therefore, it is recommended that this approach be integrated into school guidance and counseling programs to support student literacy development more comprehensively.
