Abstract
The background of the research was based on the phenomenon that many teachers still use traditional method to teach students. So, it will be difficult for the students to achieve the learning target. The researcher used English songs as the teaching media in teaching and learning process, especially in teaching vocabulary. The problem of this research is specifically formulated as follows: “Is there any significant effect of using English songs in teaching vocabulary to the tenth graders?” This research was an Experimental Research. The data were obtained by giving test to the students before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the researcher gave the treatment. The instrument to collect the data was test. In this case, the researcher asked the students to find new vocabulary. The test was used to know the effect of using English songs in vocabulary teaching. Based on the result of the research: (1) The implementation of English songs in teaching vocabulary started when the researcher taught about vocabulary in theory in both the experimental class and control class, then teaching which covered adjective, verb, noun, and adverb. English songs was implemented in experimental class XB, while traditional teaching method was implemented in control class XC. (2) There is significant effect of using English songs in teaching vocabulary. It can be seen from the mean score of the post-test of experimental group and control group. The mean score of post-test in experimental group was 68.00, while the control group was 62.17. (3) English songs gave the effect in teaching vocabulary to the tenth graders of SMA Dharma Putra. It motivated the students to learn the new vocabulary. It also made the learning process become more interesting because it gave the new atmosphere. The students were more interested to learn the lesson. English songs made the students pay attention to the new vocabulary, so that they can easily to remember the new vocabulary. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada fenomena bahwa masih banyak guru yang menggunakan metode tradisional untuk mengajar siswa. Jadi, akan sulit bagi para siswa untuk mencapai target belajar. Peneliti menggunakan lagu berbahasa Inggris sebagai media pengajaran dalam proses belajar mengajar, terutama dalam pengajaran vocabulary. Masalah penelitian ini secara khusus diformulasikan sebagai berikut: “Ada efek yang signifikan menggunakan lagu berbahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran vocabulary kepada kelas sepuluh?” Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental. Data yang diperoleh dengan memberikan ujian kepada siswa sebelum (pre-test) dan setelah (post-tes) peneliti memberikan pengajaran. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes. Dalam kasus ini, peneliti meminta para siswa untuk menemukan kosakata baru. Tes digunakan untuk mengetahui efek menggunakan lagu berbahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran vocabulary. Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian: (1) Pengaplikasian lagu berbahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran vocabulary dimulai ketika peneliti mengajarkan tentang vocabulary secra teori di kedua kelas, kontrol dan eksperimen. Kemudian dikhusukan dalam pengajaran adjective, verb, noun, dan adverb. Lagu berbahasa Inggris ini dilaksanakan di kelas eksperimen XB, sementara metode pengajaran tradisional dilaksanakan di kelas kontrol XC. (2) Ada efek signifikan menggunakan lagu berbahasa Inggris dalam pengajaran vocabulary. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari rata-rata skor post-test antara kelompok eksperimental dan kelompok kontrol. Rata-rata skor post-test di kelas eksperimental adalah 68,00 sementara kelas kontrol adalah 62,17. (3) Lagu berbahasa Inggris memberikan efek dalam pengajaran vocabulary di kelas sepuluh SMA Dharma putra. Hal ini memotivasi siswa untuk belajar vocabulary dan membuat proses belajar menjadi lebih menarik karena memberikan suasana yang baru. Belajar lebih menyenangkan. Lagu berbahasa Inggris membuat para siswa yang memperhatikan pengajaran, sehingga siswa dapat lebih mudah untuk mngingat kosakata baru.
