Abstract

This study, using the expository mixed method, aims to investigate the perception of the students English Teaching Study Program (ETSP), Christian University of Indonesia (CUI). The participants were 64 students who participated in Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) course conducted in the odd semester of 2013/2014 academic year. To achieve the objective, a questionnaire and interview were administered to obtain the data concerning the students’ perception of blended learning (BL) environment regarding students’ English skills development, the perceived advantages, limitations, and suggestion for enhancing quality of web-based learning in ETSP of CUI. The findings revealed that 92% of the students responded positively to the use of BL to improve their vocabulary mostly through writing activities. The students also perceived by using BL, their computer skill was developed along with their interest. Regarding the advantages, connectivity was indicated as a major problem by 82% of the students. As a result of the problems addressed, increasing the number of computer labs and training were suggested by 75% of the students for enhancing the quality of learning. Penelitian ini, menggunakan metode ekspositori campuran, yang bertujuan menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI). Peserta penelitian ini adalah 64 mahasiswa yang mengikuti mata kuliah Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) yang diadakan pada semester ganjil 2013/2014. Angket dan wawancara dirancang untuk memperoleh data tentang persepsi mahasiswa terhadap suasana Blended Learning (BL) yang menyangkut perkembangan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa, keuntungan, kelemahan, dan saran untuk meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran berbasis web di program studi bahasa Inggris, UKI. Temuan menujukkan 92% mahasiswa merespon positif penggunaan BL dalam meningkatkan kemampuan kosa kata melalui kegiatan menulis. Mahasiswa tersebut juga berpendapat bahwa menggunakan BL, kemampuan komputerisasi mereka berkembang seiring dengan minat yang meningkat. Sehubungan keuntungan tersebut, konektivitas internet menjadi masalah utama bagi 82% mahasiswa. Meningkatkan jumlah laboratorium komputer dan pelatihan disarankan oleh 75% mahasiswa untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. Kata kunci: BL, CALL, course, perception.
