Abstract
Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kosakata siswa dengan menggunakan lagu-lagu berbahasa Inggris. Untuk mencapai tujuan, data dikumpulkan melalui tes, observasi dan kuesioner selama proses melaksanakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan dua siklus di kelas dua SMP Santo Paulus selama semester genap dari Tahun Akademik 2017/2018. Dengan menggunakan 34 siswa di kelas sebagai subjek yang terdiri dari 16 perempuan dan 18 laki-laki, penelitian tindakan dilakukan dengan memberikan latihan khusus tentang kosakata, termasuk mendengarkan lagu-lagu berbahasa Inggris, menggali kata-kata yang tidak biasa atau sulit untuk siswa, merekam, menyalin dan menganalisis lirik lagu. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa lagu-lagu berbahasa Inggris dapat memperkaya kosakata siswa. Hal ini terlihat dari peningkatan rata-rata nilai siswa, yaitu 36, 91 (tes awal) menjadi 66, 32 (post-test siklus 1) menjadi 70,15 (tes kemajuan) menjadi 75 (post-test siklus 2). Selain peningkatan skor, sikap siswa terhadap pelafalan juga meningkat. Selain peningkatan skor, sikap siswa terhadap belajar bahasa Inggris menggunakan lagu-lagu berbahasa Inggris juga meningkat. Dalam siklus I, 23,53% dari siswa mengatakan bahwa mereka mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajari kosakata bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan lagu bahasa Inggris. Namun, setelah menyelesaikan penelitian aksi, hanya 5% masih mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajari Kosakata Bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan temuan dalam diskusi, disarankan untuk melakukan penelitian tindakan serupa pada siswa tingkat pendidikan yang lebih rendah, dan untuk menggunakan jenis media lain yang menarik. Kata Kunci: Lagu Berbahasa Inggris, Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, Kosakata This classroom action research was conducted to enhance the students’ vocabulary by using the English Songs. To reach out the objective, data were collected through tests, observation and questionnaire during the process of carrying out a two-cycle classroom action research in the second grade class of SMP Santo Paulus during the even semester of 2017/2018 Academic Year. Using the 34 students in the class as subjects which consisted by 16 girls and 18 boys, the classroom action research was conducted by providing special practices on vocabulary, including listening to English songs, drillings on unfamiliar or difficult words to students, recording, transcribing and analyzing song lyrics. The results showed that the English songs could enrich the students’ vocabulary. This is seen from the increase of the students’ score average, i.e. 36.91 (pre-test) to 66.32 (post-test of cycle 1) to 70.15 (progressing test) to 75 (posttest of cycle 2). In addition to the score increase, students’ attitudes towards English song in enriching students’ vocabulary also improved. In the cycle I, 23.53% of the students said that they had trouble in learning English Vocabulary by using English song. However, after finishing the action research, only 5% was still had trouble in learning English Vocabulary. Based on the findings and discussions indicate that using English song can be effective media in enriching students' vocabulary. However, it is expected that other researchers could carry out similar classroom action research on students of educational lower levels, and to employ other types of interesting media to develop it.
