Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui korelasi antara kebiasaan membaca siswa dalam Bahasa Inggris dengan kemampuan pemahaman mereka dalam membaca. Terdapat dua variabel yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini yaitu kebiasaan membaca sebagai variabel bebas (x) dan kemampuan pemahaman membaca sebagai variabel terikat (y). Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif yang menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan korelasional. Peneliti melakukan penelitian ini di SMPN 80 Jakarta. Populasi dalam penelitian adalah siswa-siswi kelas delapan tahun akademik 2021/2022. Melalui teknik sampling acak sederhana, diperoleh sebanyak 100 siswa kelas delapan sebagai partisipan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan dua jenis instrument yaitu kuesioner untuk menentukan tingkat kebiasaan membaca siswa, sedangkan tes tertulis digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman membaca siswa. Data tersebut dikumpulkan secara daring melalui Google Form, karena penerapan sistem pembelajaran hibrida di masa pandemi COVID-19. Hasil temuan menunjukan nilai signifikansi (Sig. 2-tailed) lebih rendah dari 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05) dengan nilai koefisien korelasi yaitu 0.588. Sehingga, Ha diterima sedangkan H0 ditolak, atau dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada korelasi yang positif dan signifikan antara kebiasaan membaca dan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas delapan SMPN 80 Jakarta. Kata Kunci: Korelasi, Hubungan, Kebiasaan, Membaca, Pemahaman, Siswa. / This research aimed to find out the correlation between students' reading habits in English with their reading comprehension ability. There are two variables in this research to observe, which are students’ reading habits as the independent variable (x) and their reading comprehension as the dependent variable (y). The researcher conducted this research in SMPN 80 Jakarta. This research is quantitative research which implemented the descriptive method with the correlational approach. The population of this research is eighth-grade students in the academic year 2021/2022. Through using simple random sampling, the researcher obtained a total of 100 students from the eighth grade as participants. Data collection was carried out using two types of instruments namely the questionnaire used to determine the level of students' reading habits, and a written test used to measure students' reading comprehension levels. The data was collected via Google Forms, due to the implementation of hybrid learning in the COVID-19 era. The findings showed that the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) was lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05), with the correlation coefficient value was 0.588. Therefore, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected, or it can be concluded that there was a positive and significant correlation between students’ reading habit and their reading comprehension in the eighth grade of SMPN 80 Jakarta.
