Abstract

The implementation of this research took place at SMA Negeri 42 Jakarta in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The sample selection technique uses purposive sampling, so that the research subjects consist of class X-5 as an experimental group with 35 students and class X-2 as a control group with the same number of students. The research design applied is Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Hypothesis testing was carried out by utilizing the SPSS version 26 application through the Independent Sample T test and NGain Test methods. The results of the Independent Sample T test analysis of the effectiveness of Pictorial Riddle learning media resulted in a comparison between ttabel (1.667) and tcount (4.593). Because ttable < tcount (1.667 < 4.593), H0 which states that Pictorial Riddle Learning Media is Not Effective in Improving Students' Critical Thinking Skills is rejected, and Ha which states that Pictorial Riddle Learning Media is Effective in Improving Students' Critical Thinking Skills is accepted. Furthermore, the results of the NGain test showed that the average NGain value in the experimental class reached 71.53%, with the category quite effective. While in the control class, the average score of NGain reached 46.92%, with the category less effective. From these results, it can be concluded that Pictorial Riddle Learning media is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. The conclusion of this study is that Pictorial Riddle Learning media is proven effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in the context of learning basic chemistry laws in class X.
