Abstract

Kedua instrumen tersebut dianalisis mempergunakan Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), menghasilkan nilai chi-square sebesar 0,740. / The primary objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between the physical fitness and body mass index (BMI) levels of students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Christian University of Indonesia, specifically focusing on the class of 2021. The instrument utilized in this study was the Harvard Step test. The Harvard Step Test is a method employed to assess an individual's physical fitness level. It involves repeatedly ascending and descending a chair that is 40 cm in height, while adhering to a consistent metronome rhythm, for a duration of 5 minutes. In addition, the other instrument that are use was Body Mass Index (BMI). Body Mass Index is an instrument to find out the ideal body weight. Based on the research, the level of the physical fitness of 57 students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Kristen Indonesia. 44 students in the less category (77.2%), 8 students in the medium category (14.0%), and 5 students are in the good category (8.8%). This indicates that the students' physical condition is still categorized as poor. In addition to this, the analysis of the body mass index (BMI) of the students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Kristen Indonesia, class of 2021, reveals that the largest proportion consisted of individuals classified as having a normal weight, comprising 31 individuals, which accounts for 54.4% of the total student population. In the study sample, it was observed that 12 individuals (21.1%) were classified as obese, 6 individuals (10.5%) were classified as underweight, 4 individuals (7.0%) were classified as overweight, and an additional 4 individuals (7.0%) were classified as having Obesity II. The two instruments were analyzed using the SPPS methods and the result were a chi-square of 0.740 or what is usually meant by the two variables being unrelated. Keywords : Harvard Step Test, Physical Fitness, Body Mass Index.
