Abstract

Latar Belakang: Katarak merupakan penyebab utama gangguan penglihatan dan kebutaan di dunia, dan lebih dari 50 % kebutaan pada masyarakat disebabkan oleh katarak. Katarak adalah penyakit multifaktorial, banyak faktor yang dapat memicu terjadinya katarak seperti merokok, sinar matahari, diabetes mellitus, dan indeks massa tubuh. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan antara peningkatan indeks massa tubuh dengan kejadian katarak senilis. Desain Penelitian: Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan penelitian kausal komparatif dengan metode cross sectional dengan desain studi kasus yang menggunakan 40 sampel terdiri dari 20 sampel katarak, 20 sampel non katarak yang diambil pada saat pemeriksaan mata yang dilakukan di Puskesmas Kelurahan Cawang. Hasil Penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya hubungan antara indeks massa tubuh dengan katarak senilis (OR 7,000, CI 95% 1,739<OR<28.174) yang menunjukan bahwa responden pada kelompok non obesitas memiliki resiko 7 kali lebih besar untuk terkena katarak dibandingkan pada responden dengan kelompok non katarak. Kesimpulan: Obesitas meningkatkan resiko kejadian katarak. Background: Cataract is the main cause of visual impairment and blindness in the world, and more than 50% blindness in the society caused by cataract. Cataract is a multi-factorial disease, many factors can trigger cataract such as smoking, sunlight, diabetes mellitus, and body mass index. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to know the relationship between the increase of body mass index with senile cataract. Research Design: The research is an causal comparative research with cross sectional method and case study design with 40 samples consists of 20 cataract samples and 20 non-cataract samples taken on the eye examination in Puskesmas Kelurahan Cawang. Research Result: The research result showed that there is a relationship between body mass index and senile cataract (OR 7,000, CI 95% 1,739<OR<28.174) which shows the non-obesity group respondent have 7 times higher risk to get cataract than the noncataract group respondent. Conclusion: Obesity increases the risk of cataract.
