Abstract

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) adalah keadaan terjadinya obstruksi/ menyempitnya saluran napas atas selama tidur, yang mengakibatkan terhentinya napas dalam beberapa waktu. OSA dapat dialami pada semua kelompok usia dan dilaporkan sebanyak 56% memiliki gejala mengantuk sepanjang hari (excessive daytime sleepiness/EDS). Merokok dapat menyebabkan perubahan abnormal pada saluran napas atas, baik secara histologis maupun fisiologis. Terdapat beberapa mekanisme yang telah dihipotesiskan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana merokok dapat meningkatkan risiko terjadinya OSA. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan merokok dengan OSA pada mahasiswa fakultas hukum Universitas Kristen Indonesia Angkatan 2018-2021. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah observasional analitik dengan desain cross sectional study. Dengan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan simple random sampling, didapatkan 94 responden. Data yang diperoleh merupakan data primer menggunakan kuesioner ESS dan riwayat merokok, kemudian data dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik Chi-Square. Hasil uji statistik didapatkan nilai p = 0,214. Tidak terdapat hubungan merokok dengan OSA pada mahasiswa fakultas hukum Universitas Kristen Indonesia angkatan 2018-2021 merupakan kesimpulan dari penelitian ini./ Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a condition of obstruction / narrowing of the upper airway during sleep, which results in cessation of breathing for some time. OSA can be experienced in all age groups and as many as 56% reported having symptoms of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). Smoking can cause abnormal changes in the upper respiratory tract, both histologically and physiologically. Several mechanisms have been hypothesized to explain how smoking increases the risk of developing OSA. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between smoking and OSA in law faculty students at the Indonesian Christian University Class of 2018-2021. The method used in this research is analytic observational with a cross sectional study design. With the sampling technique using simple random sampling, obtained 94 respondents. The data obtained were primary data, using the ESS questionnaire and smoking history, then the data were analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Statistical test results obtained p value = 0.214. There is no relationship between smoking and OSA in law faculty students at the Indonesian Christian University class 2018-2021, which is the conclusion of this study.
