Abstract

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) has served not only as a place to study in higher level but also as ‘training centre' to prepare qualified manpower. However, the fast and dynamic changes outside the walls of higher education (i.e. job market or workplaces) has forced HEIs to accelerate their changes in order to keep pace with the changes that occur in the world of work. The fourth generation of the Industrial Revolution Era which is characterized by automation, super computers, and others has required HEIs to respond quickly and make necessary changes so they can retain their position as providers of higher education amidst the development of science and technology. Teaching and learning processes, therefore, have to be adjusted to better prepare workforces for the 21st century. The relevance of higher education and the world of work will also be challenged because the communities still send their children to HEIs to be trained before entering the job market. Intra-, co-, and most importantly, extra-curricular activities need to be well designed in order to optimize students’ competencies to welcome the fourth generation of industrial revolution era.
