Abstract
Penggunaan komputer jangka panjang dapat berkontribusi pada prevalensi sindrom penglihatan komputer di kalangan mahasiswa./Background: Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is a group of symptoms caused by a continuous computer usages. This disease could affect everybody who are active on using computers such as the medical students. This syndrome has multifactorial risk factors such as long-term computer use. Aim: This aim of this study is to know the relationship of long-term computer use to the incidence of Computer Vision Syndrome on the medical student of medical faculty christian university indonesia. Method: This cross-sectional study included 137 medical student christian university indonesia who responded to Computer Vision Syndrome Questionnaire Scale (CVSS17). Data analysis using univariate and bivariate to prove relationship of long-term computer use and Computer Vision Syndrome. Result: Sample size was 137 study object, 101 (73,7%) were female and 36 (26,3%) were male, 43,8% were 19 years of age, 97.8% used computer > 4 hours/day to study. Out of 137 study object, 3 study object used their computers < 4 hours/day: 2 study object (66.7%) experienced moderate Computer Vision Syndrome, 1 study object (33.3%) experienced severe Computer Vision Syndrome. 134 study object who uses their computer > 4 hours/day: 10 respondents (7.5%) experienced moderate Computer Vision Syndrome, 44 study object (32.8%) experienced severe Computer Vision Syndrome and 80 respondents (59.7%) experienced very severe Computer Vision Syndrome. The association between Computer Vision Syndrome and long term computer use as found to be significant (p = 0.001). The study used an analytical test with Chi Square non-parametric. Conclusion: Computer Vision Syndrome was found to be very frequent among the medical student of Medical Faculty Christian University Indonesia. Long term computers use may contribute to the prevalence of computer vision syndrome among university students.
