Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and career choices in students at SMP Negeri 1 Ambon. This research uses quantitative methods with the type of correlation. The research subjects were 160 students of class IX in SMP Negeri 1 Ambon using random sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were the self-efficacy scale and the career choice scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. The research subjects were 160 students consisting of 94 boys and 66 girls, with an age range of 13 to 15 years. Based on the results of the data description, it is known that the self- efficacy of students is in the medium category with 80 students or 50% of respondents. Whereas for the choice of career students are in the medium category with the number of 81 or 50.6% of respondents. The data analysis technique in this study used parametric inferential statistics. The results showed that self-efficacy correlated with career choice. This can be seen from the correlation coefficient of 0.874 which is included in the very strong category with a significance value of 0.000. This means that there is a very strong and significant relationship between self-efficacy and career choice in grade IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Ambon. The result of simple regression equation analysis is Ŷ = 36,091 + 0,720X. and p-value 0.000 <0.05. Thus, “Self-Efficacy has a positive effect on Career Choice. The more self-efficacy value increases, the career choice value will increase. The results of the coefficient of determination show that the self-efficacy variable contributes to the career choice variable by 76.5% while the remaining 23.5% is another caused that is not included in the study.
