Abstract

Globalization is a phase of change experienced by the world community which results in increasingly blurred geographical boundaries between countries. The exchange of information and the flow of goods and services has penetrated across countries (global, international), no longer limited to the scope of the country (local, national). Globalization requires the ability to compete with other countries if you do not want to be left behind or even lose from global competition. In their research, Mourshed, Farrell, & Barton (2012) found that 58% of employers said that the knowledge and skills possessed by college graduates were not what the job market expected. The Central Statistics Agency (2019) released new data that the number of unemployed elementary to high school graduates is decreasing, while college graduates are increasing. The work environment requires a different combination of skills than that provided by the higher education system. The ability of universities to produce graduates who are competitive, able to survive and develop in the midst of the challenges of the transformation of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era has been tested. This paper intends to examine more deeply about the new strategies that the Christian University of Indonesia (UKI) as a private university in Jakarta should take in producing competitive graduates. A new strategy that is in line with the demands of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, namely the digitalization program in various aspects ranging from administrative aspects, teaching and learning processes, developing lecturer competence, and social networking. This program will encourage UKI to consistently anticipate and prepare themselves to produce personnel who have new skills and knowledge in accordance with the demands of the times. Keywords: competitiveness, new strategy, and digitizalition
